Product Description
The robust lens hoods of the DV series are specifically designed for the permanent use on digital video cameras, to protect the exposed and sensitive lenses of video cameras from mechanical damage. The angles of these rectangular hoods match with the shooting angles of digital video cameras. DV series lens hoods are also provided with an additional protective cap, which can be put on front of the hood.
The main function of the lens hood is to shade the lens from stray light, improving your contrast and image quality. But it will also protects the front barrel from the inevitable impacts against walls, door frames, and other real-life obstacles and in inclement weather, it can assist in keeping moisture or wind-blown debris off the lens. This hood enables you to shoot even towards the light source (in bright sunlight) without excessive flare, as long as you keep the light source outside the image area.
Installation:
* Rotate lock-ring to expose the thread's mounting thread * Attach the hood by screwing it on the filter or lens thread. * Rotate lock-ring back to fix the hood on the thread. * While fixating the hood with the lock-ring, keep the " " symbol on the hood exactly at 12 o'clock position.

Awesome, effective product! May 14, 2010 JGC (Atlanta, GA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Great buy; solid, simple and effective product - does what it says (and looks great on the camcorder!). Purchased this for a Canon HFS-200 for lens flare reduction and lens protection purposes (plus wanted the end cap for additional dust control purposes). Fits perfectly, though be careful the first few times when screwing it on so as not to strip the threads - no worries there now, though; now that it is "broken-in" it goes on like a champ, and the adjustable locking ring allows for easy and precise horizontal alignment.
There's no hint of the edges/corners of it in frame when zoomed fully in or out, but it does (physically) block half the light from pop-up flash when shooting stills in "photo mode," resulting in half-lit scenes (the upper half). Solution: simply remove it when shooting stills that require the flash, then easily re-attach it later.
Would buy this reasonably priced, effective product again a hundred times over!
Great Hood January 26, 2009 P. Marsh (Near NYC) I had the same situation as "Josh". I did a little D.I.Y. trimming of
the front area with some snips. Then a file to smooth it. The finished
product had a shorter front length, Reducing the total length/depth of
the hood fixed the problem. Just a short amount did the trick!
Excellent add-on August 30, 2009 Zurab Kereselidze (San Antonio, TX, USA) I love this product immediately since putting it on my Canon Vixia HF S10. This camcorder does not have such high wide angle as GL2 so you won't have any problem with corners even putting it on to some filter (I'm using UV filter).
As this product is created especially for consumer camcorders it's great as such camcorders don't have deep wide angle. Why to put this hood on prosumer or pro cameras when they have their own.
Now my camera looks somehow professional.
Good Hood November 23, 2009 tomdb117 (Wichita, KS) I bought this for my Canon HF S10. The threads on the hood are plastic, so I had a hard time getting it to screw directly onto the camcorder's plastics threads. I didn't want to take a chance damaging the threads, so I installed a UV filter onto the camcorder first, then installed the hood onto the filter with no problems. Didn't notice any interference from the hood in the video.
The hood does stick up a bit, so it will interfere with the light output from the pop up light/flash of the HF S10.
Overall very happy with the hood.
DV-S 58mm lens hood Canon HF-S100 March 2, 2010 g76484 This seems like a great lens hood but it is a little bit bigger than I thought it was going to be. This lens hood comes with the cap which is really nice and Does a great job of blocking out lens flare from the lens. Great Product, 5 Stars.
